Kit list

  • Bring your own bike, or hire one from us.
  • Spare tubes/tubeless repair kit
  • Pump
  • Guides will have first aid kits
  • Tyres suitable for the terrain. Recommended is at least 40mm. For mixed gravel, Jonathan runs a 45mm Schwalbe G-One Ultrabite on the front and a 40mm G-One R on the back. Generally, bigger is better. Most of the gravel is towards the smoother end of the spectrum, but some of it is quite lumpy.
  • No specific climbing gearing is needed. Some climbs will hit 25%, but only for brief ramps. Most are less than 15% gradient.
  • Expect 20-25c and sunny, but rain can happen too. Suitable waterproofs as required.
  • Helmets are mandatory.
  • All bikes should be in good mechanical condition. We will have a mechanic to hand, but you will be expected to attend to your own minor mechanicals. We will have a selection of common spare parts.
  • Swimming kit! The lakes should be over 20c by late May, and with a sauna too, it's the perfect way to relax after a day's riding.
  • Gels/carbs. We will offer substantial amounts of carb dense food, both at meal times and rest stops, but you're responsible for anything you add to your water for your bottle.  Jonathan typically uses a 50:50 mix maltodextrin and glucose/dextrose, which is a cheap and easily available option.
  • GPS cycle computer - you will need to have the capacity to follow a GPX file for your route guidance.
  • Insurance - travel insurance and cycle specific insurance to cover your trip.
